Description:
Rare, early c.19th engraving of Brazil’s Puris Indian in the forests of Brazil.
Based on the travel accounts of Prince Maximilian Nuewied in Brazil, 1815, 1816 and 1817. Before colonisation the Puris Indians lived as nomadic hunter-gatherers in the forests and mountains of eastern Brazil, organised in small bands led by elders. They inhabited regions from the Preto River to the Paraíba River.
