Scarce, impressive c.18th plan of the city of Gotha, in Thuringia, Germany, by Matthaus Seutter.
The view shows the city with his building, churches, the Castle, streets, gardens, town walls and surrounding landscape. The map is adorned with a beautiful large banner-style title cartouche handed by two putti and embellished with Hermes, Gaia handing a cornucopia, an angel with trumpet and a putto handing a large Armorial, a compass rose and a large figurate monument-style legend key cartouche.

Matthaus Seutter (1678 - 1756)
Matthaus Seutter (1678-1756) Mapmaker, engraver and publisher of Augsburg. A pupil of Homann he set up on his account in 1707 & appointed Geographer to the Imperial Court.
