François Cogne (1829 - )

French born artist who left London for Port Melbourne, Australia in 1855 where he established himself at Ballarat. He stayed in Ballarat for three years and produced a number of lithographs that provided a visual record of the large mining centre. Cogne moved back to Melbourne in 1862 where he started working with Charles Troedel producing lithographs. He subsequently returned to Paris in 1864.
