Mr. Robt. Butcher, M.L.A.

Rare c.19th engraved portrait of Robert Butcher (1834 – 1888).

After leaving school Robert’s worked in the offices of Gibbs, Bright and Company. He arrived in Australia in 1852 and went to the goldfields as a miner. Employed as a clerk in the warehouse of William Long, wine and spirit merchant. Became the manager and then the proprietor, after Long’s death in 1876.
