Description:
Rare c.19th hand coloured engraving of the Sydney Meat Preserving Company’s works which were established on Hacking Creek, near Parramatta Road, in Auburn in 1869 to process excess meat.
These works were situated next to stockyards that later became Flemington Saleyards. The company, founded by graziers, performed slaughtering, preserving, and boiling down of livestock, and its operations were later moved or extended to Lidcombe before the company ceased operations in 1964.
