Knorr was a German paleontologist, artist, engraver and collector. At age 18, he became an engraver for Leonhard Blanc, working with Martin Tyroff on the illustrations for Jacob Scheuchzer’s Physica Sacra . He then engraved portraits, landscapes and geological illustrations. He also took a keen interest in the work of Albert Durer and engraved copies of a number of animal a studies. As Nuremberg became the center of production for fine natural history books, Knorr published a number of scientific works. These included his most famous series Deliciae Naturae Selectae Oder Auserlefenes Naturalien Cabinet.
