Maps of China occupy a central place in the history of Asian cartography. Early European representations were shaped by Jesuit missionaries and traders, who provided detailed geographic information previously unavailable in the West.
Cartographers such as Ortelius, Blaeu and later d’Anville produced influential maps based on Chinese sources and scientific surveying. These works document provinces, river systems and major cities, reflecting China’s importance in global trade and diplomacy.
