Nicholas John Caire (1837 - 1918)
Caire arrived in Australia in 1858 & began his photographic career with Duryea, the flamboyant American photographer. Moved to Victoria 1869 & bought Chuck’s studio in the Royal Arcade in Bourke St where his trade flourished. He is best remember for his great body of work which is of real historic & artistic merit. He was always more interested in Indulging his passion for photography rather than the business side & consequently didn’t enjoy great prosperity.
