Dr Hermann Haack (1872-1966)

Well known German mapmaker. Initially financially supported by Bernhard Perthes he was able to pursue studies in the field of geography and cartography. He continued his studies at the University of Gottingengreatly where he was greatly influence by Hermann Wagner. It was on the recommendation of Wagner Haack obtained the position of the assistant of Ferdinand von Richthofen. After completing his thesis on the study of the average height of the continent of South America he obtained a permanent position at the Institute of Geography. He was the founder The Association of German Schulgeographen in 1912.

He died at the age of 94.
