Major C. G. T. Chauvel who was in the 35th Madras Native Infantry and grandson of the late Colonel Chauvel, of Walton Bridge House, Surrey. In 1838 Major Chauvel, retired from the service, came to New South Wales, and settled in the Mudgee district. In 1848 he purchased Tabulam, on the Clarence River, which run was managed for many years by his son, Mr. C. H. E. Chauvel.
