Friedrich Wilhelm Kuhnert (1865 - 1926)

Kuhnert was a German painter, author and illustrator, who specialised in natural history images. Kuhnert studied at the Royal Academic College of Fine Arts from 1883 to 1887, thereafter travelling regularly to Scandinavia, Egypt, East Africa and India to draw and paint. Kuhnert is considered one of the most important German animal painters of his time and his favourite motif was the African lion.
