Description:

Scarce c.18th hand coloured engraved map of Cannan by Daniel Stoopendaal from the 1714 edition of the Keur family Bible.

The map extends from the Mediteranean to he Jordan River. The map is embellished with a key at top left and a scale at top left both embellished with putti and a lower map area a series of scenes depicting the Nativity, Jesus and the Crusifixation.

The first Keur family bible was issued in 1666, the last in 1756. Three generations of Keur’s worked on it: the brothers Hendrik and Jacob, Jacob’s son Pieter and Pieter’s two sons Jacob and Hendrik.

Daniel Stoopendaal (1672 - 1726)

Dutch engraver and mapmaker active in Amsterdam during the early part of the 17th century. He is best known for his engravings of Nicholas Visscher maps.
