Published in Paris in 1836, Jules de la Pilorgerie’s Histoire de Botany-Bay is the second French history of Australia.

Botany Bay on the east coast of Australia was chosen in 1787 by the English government as a place of deportation. This study aims to demonstrate the ineffectiveness of penal colonies while the project of creating one had many supporters in France at the time.
