Large map of South Australia extending from the Clare Valley in the north, York Peninsula, Kangaroo Island and to the southern extremity of the state, with counties delineated in colour
John Sands (1818 - 1873)
In 1837 Sands came to Sydney for health reasons and with stationery valued at £500 he set up business in George Street. In 1848 he took over a shop front next to the General Post Office. By 1870 as stationers, booksellers, printers and account book manufacturers the firm was one of the largest of its kind in Australia and in that year won prizes for printing and book production at the Inter Colonial Exhibition in Sydney.
