Description:

Very decorative large double hemisphere world map with four female figures representing the continents seated on a Rocco framed title. Two smaller north and south hemispheres are situated at top left and right corners.

Numerous explorers tracks are, including those of Tasman 1642, Magellan 1520 and Le Maire are shown. Australia is shown according to the discoveries made on Tasman’s first and second voyages (1642-44). The discoveries made by Cartenz in 1623 on the western side of Cape York which is shown joined to New Guinea. Previous Dutch voyages on the south west coast include those of Hartog 1616 and Leeuwin 1622.

Lotter was a publisher of maps in Augsburg, Germany. He inherited the family mapmaking business from his father-in-law, Matthias Seutter. Lotter published atlases and numerous sheet maps.
