Description:

Superbly decorated c.18th double hemisphere world map surrounded by garlands of flowers and fruit and enclosed by an engraved framed border.

Although the map was published eleven years after Cooks’ voyage accounts were released, Australia is shown up to the discoveries of Abel Tasman on his first 1642-3 and second 1644 voyages. This first state is identified by the publisher’s name, Remondini in the oval panel at lower centre and the plate number ‘2’ at top right.
