Description:
Rare map date 15th July 1878 of the proposed improvements to the Burnett River, Queensland as surveyed by Edward Parker Bedwell.
The Burnett River was first surveyed by John Charles Burnett, and named after him in 1847. The township of Bundaberg was founded in 1867 timber workers and farmers John and Gavin Steuart. The settlement of Bundaberg originally began on the northern banks of the Burnett River in 1867 but after a survey made in 1869 the town was re-sited onto the higher, southern banks. The town was surveyed, laid out, and named Bundaberg in 1870.
