Rare gold mining map of the Forest Creek field.

Mr. Brown was one of the early pioneers of Castlemaine, arriving in 1852, and for some time worked on the diggings. He opened a store at Wattle Gully, Chewton, where he continued to reside up to the time of his death. As a mining surveyor he worked for the  Mines department, the Royal Commission on Gold mining,and also the local mining bodies. His last work in connection with the office was the preparation of an elaborate plan of the reefs,Fix this textshafts, and drives in the borough of Chewton, and it was issued recently with the mining registrar’s report by the secretary for Mines.
