Scarce, c.20th colour lithographed map of Tanganyika by with Directorate of Colonial Surveys with an inset at lower left showing the the colony in red.
Tanganyika, historical eastern African state that in 1964 merged with Zanzibar to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, later renamed the United Republic of Tanzania.
In 1946 the Directorate of Colonial Surveys (DCS) was established by the Colonial Office to provide a central survey and mapping organisation for British colonies and protectorates.
