Rare c.19th map of the New South Wales coast from Scott’s Head to Smokey Cape, with the entrance of the Macleay River. A breakwater at Trial Bay is shown, which had been proposed to create a safe harbour for shipping caught in southerly or easterly gales. The bay is named after the brig Trial which was shipwrecked there in 1816.
The Surveyor General Sydney, was Walker Rannie Davidson (1808-1876) at the time.
