Carte de visite of  William Francis D’Arcy taken by Joseph Warrin Wilder (1854-1900) taken at his premises at East Street, Rockhampton which he was at between 1872-1882.

Inscribed and dated on verso “one year old on the 14th Sept 1874 with best wishes

William Francis D’Arcy was born 14 September 1873 in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia to William Knox D’Arcy (1849-1917) and Maria Colletta Elena de la Trinidad Birkbeck (1848-1897) and died 11 October 1919 Exmouth, Devon, England, United Kingdom of unspecified causes. He married Violet Nina Baring (1881-1965) 23 May 1906 in St. Peter’s Church, Eaton Square, Belgravia, Greater London, England, United Kingdom.

Carte-de-visite ( 1854 - 1900) (1854 - 1900)

Were small cards, the size of a formal visiting card about 114mm x 63mm, with an albumen paper print photograph attached. They were invented in 1854 by A.A.E. Disderi. The backs of the cards were normally printed with the photographer's name, address and insignia.

Joseph Warrin Wilder ( - )

Photographer worked at Ipswich, Queensland in 1861-2, moving to Rockhampton and had studios in: Denham St 1862-68 and East Street from 1872 to 1882 where his wife worked with him as a photographer. In 1881 W.T. Bennett became a partner.
