Indonesia, East Indies

Original antique maps of Indonesia, charting the islands of the Dutch East Indies and their role in global trade.

Antique Maps of Indonesia

Maps of Indonesia reflect the strategic and commercial importance of the archipelago from the 16th century onward. Early European cartography focused on key spice-producing islands, while later maps reveal the expanding reach of the Dutch East India Company (VOC).

Dutch cartographers such as Blaeu and Hondius, along with later colonial surveyors, produced influential maps showing ports, sea routes and administrative divisions. These original antique maps are closely tied to the history of maritime trade, colonial power and global commerce.
