Queen of Thebes, daughter of Tantalus and wife of Zeus’s son King Amphion. Niobe had twelve children, six sons and six daughter who had the arrogance to tell her people to worship her instead of Leto, since she had more children. Niobe was severely punished for this: Artemis and Apollo killed all her children by shooting them with arrows, and the crying Niobe turned into a rock in the mountain Sipulos from which water drips.
