Published Librairie Fischbacher, Paris. 4pp, 386pp, 6pp advertisements, Bound in modern full blue Morocco with raised bands, gilt lettering and marbled end papers. Blue ink owners stamp of, Rev. P.J. Moore on title page.

Comettant was a c.19th French composer, musicologist and traveller. In July 1888 Comettant was appointed French juror at the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition (1888) where he arrived 6 September. He visited Lilydale where he met squatters and indigenous Australians and, in October the mines of Ballarat and Sandhurst . He also travelled in the Great Western, where he admired the vines before going to Sydney to attend a banquet (December). After composing his “Salute to Melbourne” for piano, he returned to France on 28 December 1888.
