This rare map is one of a set of the four known continents that Melchior Tavernier had engraved, with or without Petrus Bertius permission and engraved by Cornelis Danckerts. A magnificent map of the continent, the geography is typical for the 17th century and filled with spurious rivers, mountains and kingdoms. The map is embellished with a strap work title cartouche on the right and another strap work cartouche which is blank.
