Description:

Attractive C18th engraved map that records the third and final voyage of Captain James Cook through the Pacific. It covers the North American coastline from Mexico through Alaska, the Asian coastline through Cambodia and the islands of Indonesia. It also shows Cook’s discovery of the Hawaiian islands. Australia is shown joined to Tasmania.

The route of the Spanish galleons between the Philippines and Acapulco is also shown.

Mapmaker:

Louis Brion De La Tour (fl 1756-1803).

Beyond the fact that Brion was an engineer by profession and held the
post of Ingenieur-Geographe du Roi, little is known of his career. He
published a wide range of statistical works and a number of atlases,
published by the well known French mapmaker Louis Charles Desnos
(1725-1805).
