Scarce c.18th map of the world on Mercator’s Projection by Rigobert Bonne with Australia shown with the discoveries up to Cook’s first voyage and his charting of the east coast. The southern coast from the Australian Bight east, is drawn as a hypothetical line and Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) is shown joined to the mainland. The map records Cook’s important discovery of the Sandwich Islands (Hawaiian Islands) made on his third and final voyage.
