John Tallis (1817 - 1876)

Bookseller and publisher of maps and atlases who produced the famous atlas of maps, 'The Illustrated Atlas, and modern history of the World'. The maps were drawn by John Rapkin (1813-1899) and were beautifully decorated with vignette views and local fauna and flora of the areas depicted. John Rapkin (1813-1899) Rapkin was a mapmaker and engraver who is best known for his superb engraving on John Tallis publications.

John Rapkin (1813 - 1899)

British mapmaker and engraver who is best known for his superb engraving on John Tallis publications. He was born in Southwark, the son of George Rapkin, a shoemaker, and his wife Elizabeth Harfy. Rapkin and his brother Richard were both engravers and his other brother, William Harfy Rapkin, was a printer.
