Description:
Daly, the nephew of Sir Dominick Daly, Governor of South Australia, emigrated from Scotland to South Australia where he was the surveyor on the Northern Territory Survey Expedition in 1868-70 before moving to Singapore and being appointed Superintendent of Public Works and Surveys in Selangor and completed numerous accurate surveys of the British states in the Malay Peninsula, adding significantly to the existing knowledge of the region. He later worked in British North Borneo, giving him the honour of having been, as an article in the Sydney Morning Herald wrote, ‘a pioneer of the British Empire in three separate colonies’. Rare and detailed map of the Malay Peninsula extending from Singapore in the South to Penang in the North after surveys completed by Dominic Daniel Daly. Each British settlement is coloured differently with the regions of Kelantan, Pahang and Johor showing large areas yet to be explored by Europeans. Published in the Proceedings of the Royal Geographical Society.
