This depiction of the Australian continent was promoted by the French School of Theoretcial Geography.

Noel Pluche (1688-1761) 

Pluche best known as the Abbe Pluche, was a French priest. He is best known for his work titled ‘Spectacle de la nature, ou Entretiens sur les particularités de l’Histoire naturelle qui ont paru les plus propres à rendre les jeunes gens curieux et à leur former l’esprit.’ This was published in 1732, and influenced many to become naturalists.
