French double hemisphere world map with Australia and New Zealand shown according to the discoveries made by Abel Tasman on his two voyages of exploration in 1642-4 and with an imaginary east coast extending from Van Diemen’s Land to New Guinea. This depiction of the Australian continent was promoted by the French School of Theoretcial Geography.

Pluche best known as the Abbe Pluche, was a French priest. He is best known for his work titled ‘Spectacle de la nature, ou Entretiens sur les particularités de l’Histoire naturelle qui ont paru les plus propres à rendre les jeunes gens curieux et à leur former l’esprit.’ This was published in 1732, and influenced many to become naturalists.
