Description:
James Peel born Geelong Victoria and died Christchurch 1905. Painter migrated to new Zealand in 1865 and after a career in banking took up painting. By 1876 he was exhibiting landscapes at the VAA , contributing to shows there until 1878. He is recorded in having returned to australia as a teacher and in 1889 exhibited at the VAS from a St Kilda address. Most of his paintings are of New Zealand.
