Description:

Scarce, c.19th hand coloured engraving of Brisbane’s Parliament House.

After Queensland separated from New South Wales in 1859 the Queensland Parliament was based in temporary quarters. The foundation stone for the existing Parliament House was laid in 1864, with the George Street frontage then being built in 1868. It is in the French Renaissance style with the roof made from Mount Isa copper. The colonnades were built in 1878 and the Alice Street frontage was commenced in 1887.
