Description:

Scarce, c.19th hand coloured map which extends from South Australia to Queensland and inset of Norfolk Island at lower left. 

The present state of Victoria is named ‘Australia Felix‘ and Lake Eyre is represented in a horseshoe shaped, with a note stating, “the greater part apparently dry on the surface, & consisting of a mixture of soft sand“. At lower right is a list of twenty counties in New South Wales.

Adam & Charles Black ( - )

The publishing company A&C Black was founded in 1807 by brothers Adam and Charles Black. Originally established in Edinburgh in 1889 then subsequently moved to Soho Square in London. They published a variety of significant works. Their atlases included Black’s Atlas of North America 1854, Atlas of Australia Including the Goldfields’ (1853), leading onto the most complete collection of finely engraved country and region maps in Black's General Atlas of the World, first published in 1879.
