Rare engraving of John Gilbert (1842-1865), a member of the Gardiner–Hall gang of bushrangers, in New South Wales. He was shot dead by the police at the age of 23 near Binalong, New South Wales on 13 May 1865. At the time of his death he had become Australia’s worst criminal, being involved in more than 630 hold-ups.
