Description:
Rare colonial engraving of the Eighteen of Victoria practicing at the M.C.G. in December 1873 for the Boxing Day cricket match which was played at the M.C.G. between the all England Eleven and the Eighteen of Victoria.
The third English team to visit Australia, were led W.G. Grace, and comprised five amateurs and seven professionals. The tourists played 15 games between Boxing Day and the end of March. None of the games had First-Class status, and the tourists fared rather poorly in the early stages, being beaten both by Victoria and New South Wales.
From the original edition of the Australasian Sketcher.
