Description:

Rare engraving of the wreck of the schooner Lismore at Newcastle, under Captained Mackie at Oyster Bank 19th July, 1866 on her way with a cargo of coal from Newcastle to Sydney. She had put back to Newcastle, but unfortunately drove on the beach. The crew were all taken off the wreck by means of the rocket apparatus invented by Captain George William Manby 1765-1854, for saving life from shipwrecks and the first modern form of fire extinguisher.
