Carte de visite of an unknown of seated young girl, taken by John Roarty at his premises at 612 George Street, Brickfield Hill, Sydney. The girls dress and a bouquet of flowers has been hand coloured. The Art Gallery of New South Wales has a similar Carte de visite of a seated girl by Roarty which has been hand coloured in the same way.

Were small cards, the size of a formal visiting card about 114mm x 63mm, with an albumen paper print photograph attached. They were invented in 1854 by A.A.E. Disderi. The backs of the cards were normally printed with the photographer's name, address and insignia.
