Description:
One of the best and most detailed panoramic views of Sydney in the 1880’s, with the city shown at the height of its prosperity and in celebration of it’s upcoming centenary.
The view is looking directly at Circular Quay and central Sydney and extending to Botany Bay in the distance. Fort Macquarie can be seen on Bennelong Point which was demolished in 1901 to make way for Fort Macquarie Tram Depot. It is now the site of the Opera House. On the right is Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, Balmain and Parramatta in the distance. Included is an amazing amount of detail;
National Library of Australia; “one of the great pictorial maps of Australia
State Library of New South Wales; “The detail is so accurate that the picture is also a plan or map.”
