Description:

Scarce, c.19th hand coloured engraving of the Exhibition Building (Garden Palace) which burnt down in 1882.

The Garden Palace was designed by James Barnet, built in only eight months from iron and timber, with the use of electric lights to allow three shifts to work per day. It was a great success with over 1,022,000 visitors through it’s gates. On 22 September 1882 the building was totally destroyed in a six hour fire.
