Scarce tourist map of Canberra made by the Department of the Interior which at the time was headed by John Rogers (1898-1971), surveyor and public servant. Marked in red is the route of city tour.
Following reorganisation of the Department of the Interior in 1951, Rogers was appointed assistant-secretary in charge of the A.C.T. planning and development branch while retaining his existing post of surveyor-general. His new role gave him the additional responsibilities that included, areas such as parks and gardens, forestry and agriculture, and the sale of leases for business and residential purposes.
