Rare engraved colonial view of Mort Bay when is it was called Waterview Bay. The area became known as Waterview Bay after the house Waterview which was built on the Balmain grant by Roland Walpole Loane in 1830. After the well know industrialist, T.S. Mort’s death in 1878, James McDonald, the Mayor of Balmain, persuaded the local council to rename the bay Mort Bay in honour of the industrialist.

Albert Charles Cooke (1836 - 1902)
Cooke was a painter, engraver, draughtsman and illustrator. Throughout his career he worked for many of the Illustrated newspapers, such as the Illustrated Sydney News, Illustrated Australian News, The Australasian Sketcher and The Leader. He was also well known for a series of birds eye views of a number of Australian cities and towns.
