Description:
The 20s and 30s was the most influential period in Australia for the female artist printmaker. Such greats as Margaret Preston, Ethel Spowers, Dorritt Black, Evelin Syme, Thea Proctor produced colour linocuts. Many of these artists either attended or were heavily influenced by Claude Flight who taught printmaking at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art in London. Little biographical information is available on Walker other than that she was born in Hobart and was a teacher and printmaker. A number of institutional galleries such as The National Gallery of Australia hold a number of her linocuts. Her lino cuts are signed with the name Ridley Walker.
