Modern binomial name: Psephotus pulcherrimus
First described: Gould 1845
Distribution: Presumed extinct, last sighting was in 1921 when C.H.Jerrard, a cattleman in the Burnett River Region reported having found an occupied nest. To prove his claim, he sent photographs of birds at their nest in a termite mound. Today these photographs remain the only ones of the living birds ever taken. First described by Gould Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist. 1838.
Alexander Francis Lydon (1836 - 1917)
English watercolour artist, illustrator and engraver of natural history and landscapes. He collaborated and worked for Benjamin Fawcett the printer, to whom he had been apprenticed from the age of fourteen.
