Complete set of six celestial maps was by Mr. William Newton from the catalogue of the Astronomical Society. The maps use the Gnomonic Projection and include all the stars up to the sixth magnitude, or those that can been seen with the naked eye. The constellations are shown in allegorical form and are finely lightly coloured.

London surveyor and manufacture of globes “at ye Globe and Sun, Chancery Lane, Fleet Street.”
In 1820 he became the editor of the ‘London Journal of Arts and Sciences,’ He introduced many improvements into the manufacture of Globes, and in the projection of maps. In 1830 he published “A Familiar Introduction to the Science of Astronomy;” intended chiefly for the use of students and in 1836, prepared a map of the heavens, in six sheets, which was edited by Sir John Lubbnck, F.R.S. He took a very active and prominent part in the first movement for the amendment of the Patent Law, which however he eventually left to be accomplished by younger men.
